The Makings of Mainguard

Mainguard Security Services (S) Pte Ltd was the brainchild of Major P. Kalastree. After a 10 year successful full-time career with the Singapore Armed Forces, he fulfilled his aspirations to develop his career in the commercial sector.

From India to London, his early experiences to the international business world gave him the motivation, sharpened his business acumen and fuelled his ambition to set up a private security firm.

In 1974, Mainguard was established with the objective of providing effective security services to premises, both in the private and public sectors of the industry.

TAKING BABY STEPS
The Humble Beginnings of Mainguard

Mainguard's vision was to provide quality security services to its clients so that they have the peace of mind that their physical assets are being protected at all times.

With this aim in mind, the company confined its attention initially to the physical security needs of its clients by providing reliable security officers to its assignments.

Though there were not many private security firms at that time, and Mainguard was one of the pioneers companies for the security industry in Singapore, Mainguard was still owned by a "baby" in the industry. The company faced competition from companies belonging to retired high-ranking officials in law enforcement.

Nevertheless, through hard work and determination, Mainguard soon acquired the sound reputation as the premier security services provider in Singapore.

With the industrialization of Singapore in the 1970s and early 80s, Major Kalastree capitalized on Singapore's active pursuit for commercial growth. He travelled with government officials on trade missions overseas, built a network of contacts and developed new ideas to expand his "baby" - Mainguard.

To sustain his competitive edge and keep pace with dynamic changes shaping the business world, he nurtured Mainguard's diversification into other security related businesses with growth.

Today, Mainguard continues to provide quality services and develop its core competencies, skills and resources under its umbrella of business units:
